Tom
Tom was a very popular player at Peel Football Club for around 20 years, after making his debut in 1983 –
scoring 213 goals in 428 appearances. He won virtually all of Manx football’s major honours during his career
and earned nine caps for the Isle of Man national team.
After retiring from football,
Tom made history when he became the first rider ever to lap the Snaefell Mountain
Course at more than 120mph in the Manx Grand Prix – recording a time of 18 minutes 49.2 seconds (120.28mph) on lap
one of the 2004 junior race. Having broke the lap record and leading the race on the last lap, Tom's engine seized at Ballaugh Bridge, causing him to lose control
and crash heavily. Sadly, Tom's injuries were so severe that he died later that evening in hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
Tom’s determination, commitment and sense of humour shone in everything he did. He was a true character who is
remembered with a smile by all who knew him.
Tom’s racing is documented on his website and
